AUDIENCE AT WESTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY 2008

SEXED

In this exciting, interactive presentation I use current media such as twitter and texting. It is designed to encourage lively discussions on sensitive topics such as sexuality, sexual assault, alcohol abuse and binge drinking. This successful approach provides useful information while eliminating any awkwardness often associated with some of this material. I create a talk show/game show atmosphere to bring the whole audience into the discussion.

Sexual Assault

In both SEXED and Surviving The Weekend I include issues around sexual assault from lowering the risk of sexual assault to dealing with the aftermath. It is an incredibly important topic that needs to be addressed and can often be very difficult to get people to participate and to acknowledge. Through personal experience and the use of texting I have been able to help people better understand how to deal with sexual assault and how it effects us personally and as a society. I can include more or less of this topic when I present. I can also do a program that is exclusively on sexual assault.

Do I Look Fat?

In this presentation I use stories and slides to expose the subtle but deadly messages we are given everyday regarding body image. We will explores the relationship between the media's messages and the predominance of eating disorders that plague women and men in our culture. We will look at different ways for the audience to help build skills to heal and nurture self-esteem, to let go of preconceived notions of beauty and cherish our authentic selves..

Surviving The Weekend

Can you drink responsibly? Maybe, but it won't work to just say no. I have been speaking on alcohol awareness for over 26 years and I have come to the conclusion the best thing I can do is present tools on living in an environment where there is alcohol. From communication to abstinence, I give ideas on how to survive the weekend, your life or any event where there are substances. Through humor and audience participation I try to reach every aspect of alcohol and drug use from problem drinkers, chronic consumption of weed, occasional partiers, binge drinking to those who choose not to drink or drug at all. As a recovering alcoholic who has not had a drink in over 27 years, I have seen and heard it all! My goal is to give the audience ways to be able to get out of bad situation, prevent a disaster or just wake up not regretting the night before.

Performance

RIVER HUSTON SEX, CELLULITE AND LARGE FARM EQUIPMENT: ONE GIRLS GUIDE TO LIVING AND DYING

Sex, Cellulite & Shopping: One Girl's Guide to Living and Dying

is a one woman performance based on the experience of falling deeply in love in the face of death, living with two terminal illnesses and coming to terms with a past that was riddled with poor choices. The show is filled with human vulnerability, humor and grace. This is a wonderful piece if you want to combine entertainment with education or want to bring something unique and provocative to your community theater.

Who Are These Presentations For?

My talks are appropriate for conferences, colleges, high schools, corporations events and any audience that will benefit from learning life skills that can show you how to turn challenges into accomplishment, choices, not circumstances, determine achievement and how to appreciate our differences instead of judging them.
